Breast cancer is the second type of cancer with the highest incidence worldwide.
Researches suggests that half of the biopsies to investigate suspicious breast cancers are performed in regions with calcifications (calcium build-ups). This paper presents a proposal for detection, analysis and classification of calcifications according Breast Image Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) via Digital Image Processing and Artificial Intelligence. This research has reached a high accuracy on calcifications detection in digital mammograms, it also provided a consolidated methodology and Computer-Aided Diagnosis to assist experts in the area of analysis and diagnosis of suspected malignant mammary regions.
